A School Report Can Tell You the Result – But Not Always the Reason
A school report can tell you that your child is working below expectations.
It can tell you that their progress has slowed, that their confidence needs improving or that they need to contribute more in lessons.
But it may not tell you why.
Is there a specific gap in their understanding?
Are they struggling with a key skill taught several years ago?
Do they understand the work but lack confidence under pressure?
Are they afraid to ask questions in a busy classroom?
Or have they simply started to believe that they are “not good” at Maths or English?
The result matters—but discovering the reason is what allows things to change.
Looking Beyond the School Report
At Chorlton Tuition Centre, we do not assume that two children with similar school reports need the same support.
One child may need help with fractions, spelling or reading comprehension. Another may understand the subject but rush, lose concentration or become anxious when working independently.
That is why we begin with a relaxed, one-hour assessment in Maths, English or both.
The assessment helps us identify:
- What your child can already do
- Where the important gaps may be
- Whether confidence is affecting performance
- Which skills need to be strengthened first
- What support would be most helpful going forward
We then explain our findings clearly, so you understand what may be behind the results shown in the school report.
The Right Support Starts With the Right Question
It is easy to focus on grades, scores and expected levels. However, simply telling a child to work harder rarely solves the underlying problem.
Before improvement can happen, we need to ask:
What is stopping this child from making the progress they are capable of?
Once we understand that, tuition can become focused and purposeful. Your child is not simply given more work—they receive support based on what they actually need.
Tuition in Chorlton for Children Aged 5–16
Chorlton Tuition Centre has supported local children and families since 2006.
We provide small-group tuition in Maths, English, Science and 11+ preparation for children aged 5–16. Our pupils come from Chorlton, Whalley Range, Stretford, Withington and surrounding areas of South Manchester.
Every child is different. A school report may show you where they are now. A careful assessment can help explain why—and what should happen next.
