You might be aware that I was a successful teacher for over 15 years working in schools across the UK. I worked in Wales, London, Manchester & Derbyshire. Many times over those years I had parent’s evenings as well as literally hundreds of interactions with parents.
And many times I found out that the children in my classes and been telling a very different version of what had been happening in class than the actual reality!
Most parents understood this, but some didn’t!
And now roll on the years.
I have 3 children of my own.
My son in Year 11 recently came home complaining about his school and how unfair things are.
Apparently his form had been given less time than others to complete their GCSE coursework.
He wasn’t happy.
On the same week as his complaint to us we had a meeting with his Head of Year.
We brought this subject up.
He’d got it wrong.
The other classes had got another two weeks to complete the coursework this was true BUT they had started the coursework project two weeks later than my son’s form!
We had had the wool pulled over our eyes!
Of course, he wasn’t being deceitful, he didn’t know the full story himself.
SO.
A message to all parents out there (myself included).
Don’t have the wool pulled over your eyes. Get the full story.
