What Happens After Your Child’s Assessment?

You have booked an assessment because something is worrying you. Perhaps maths homework has become a battle. Reading feels harder than it should. Or your child is putting in the effort but still losing confidence.

But what happens after your child’s assessment?

At Chorlton Tuition Centre, the assessment is the starting point for understanding what your child needs. It gives us an opportunity to look beyond a school result and identify where teaching and support could make a difference.

You Receive Clear Feedback

After your child’s relaxed, one-hour assessment, we explain what we have found and discuss the next steps with you.

That means looking at their strengths as well as the areas they find difficult. You should leave with a clearer understanding of what your child can do, where they need help and what we suggest working on next.

There is room for your questions, too. What you notice at home can help us understand the difficulties your child is experiencing.

We Look at Where the Difficulty Begins

The work your child struggles with today may depend on something they have not fully understood earlier.

A child finding fractions difficult might need help with multiplication and division. A pupil struggling with comprehension may be able to read the words but find it harder to explain their meaning. Someone who avoids writing may need support with sentence construction before tackling a longer piece.

Knowing where to begin matters. Simply giving a child more work at the same level can leave the underlying difficulty untouched.

The assessment helps us identify a useful starting point.

We Discuss Whether Tuition Is the Right Next Step

You can then consider our feedback and the support we recommend.

If tuition at Chorlton Tuition Centre is appropriate, we discuss a suitable place based on your child’s needs and the availability within our sessions.

An empty chair does not automatically mean the right place for every child. We want the teaching arrangement to work for the pupil joining us and the children already attending.

Some groups are full. Where a suitable place is unavailable, we would rather explain that clearly than rush your child into an unsuitable session.

Teaching Starts From What Your Child Needs

If your child joins us, the assessment informs where we begin.

For one child, that might mean revisiting number facts and building confidence with calculations. For another, it could involve developing reading comprehension, organising written answers or strengthening the knowledge needed for GCSE maths.

Our small-group tuition sessions last 80 minutes, with two teachers per session and typically four or five pupils working with each teacher. This allows children to receive guidance, ask questions and practise with support.

We provide maths and English tuition for children aged 5–16, science tuition up to Year 9, and 11+ preparation.

Confidence Can Grow Through Understanding

Parents understandably want to see progress. That can include changes in how their child approaches learning as well as the work they complete.

They may become more willing to attempt a question, explain their thinking or ask for help when something is unclear.

Progress takes time, and every child’s starting point is different. The aim is to help your child develop understanding they can use, alongside greater confidence in their own ability.
