What Happens in an Assessment at Chorlton Tuition Centre?
If you’re considering Maths or English tuition for your child, an assessment is the best first step. Parents often ask what happens during an assessment and whether it feels stressful.
The reassurance is simple: it doesn’t.
Our assessments are calm, supportive, and designed to give parents clear, practical feedback — without pressure on the child.
Drop Your Child Off for One Hour
You simply drop your child off with us for around one hour.
They work in a quiet, focused, and relaxed environment, similar to a classroom rather than a test hall. Everything is explained clearly so children feel comfortable from the start.
A Short Maths and/or English Assessment
During the session, your child completes a short assessment in:
- Maths
- English
- Or both, depending on need
This helps us understand:
- Current ability level
- Strengths to build on
- Gaps or misunderstandings
- How your child approaches questions
We look beyond scores to understand how your child learns.
Calm, Supportive Atmosphere
There is no pass or fail and no pressure to rush.
Children work at their own pace, with encouragement throughout. Many leave saying it felt “fine” or “easy” — exactly as it should.
Clear Feedback and Lesson Availability
After the assessment, we will talk you through:
- What your child is doing well
- Areas where support would help
- Recommended next steps
- Current lesson availability
We also answer any questions you have, so you can make an informed decision with confidence.
Before the Assessment: Please Share Information
To make the assessment as useful as possible, we ask parents to share as much information as they can beforehand, such as:
- School year and school attended
- Recent school feedback or reports
- Specific Maths or English concerns
- Any upcoming SATs, entrance exams, or GCSEs
This helps us tailor the assessment to your child.
